after releases on fxhe, deeplabs, and planet-e, brian kage returns with “the arc ep,” a new record on his new label, michigander. “the arc ep” is dedicated to celebrating hopeful and inspiring times in the city of detroit. the arc - dark minor chord stabs emerge and echo around a solid concrete foundation of classic 909 style drum patterns and deep pulsating bassline hits. the structure builds until giving way to a break of lush symphonic strings that pay tribute to detroit in a nostalgic manner. the arc (stringless mix) has been crafted for creating and releasing cascades of tension in the darkest of warehouses. d drive – a saturated synth lead effortlessly bounces through two octaves in a classic groove that is unmistakably from an alternative universe where the 80s never ended. this feel-good jam will get even the toughest of crowds smiling and rocking out. transcending – this contemplative soundscape flings percussive hisses rippling through a deep melodic realm. an atmosphere of timeless synthesis provides reassurance that it was a great decision to come out wearing comfortable shoes and dressed to sweat.

nested structure is the first great circles release from artists outside of philadelphia. thrive are tetsuya yoshida and hitoshi kojima. they both grew up in the north kanto area of japan. they first met at the club run by tetsuya yoshida called sound a base nest, which is known as having the best sound system in the north kanto area. in 2007, the duo started their dj / producing unit thrive. previous releases have included a split 12inch with keia yano for japanese label struct, and recent solo releases by hitoshi for always human tapes and for his own label ambivalent deviation. this record almost didnt happen! — tetsuya and hitoshi were picking up great circles records in japan and, having periodically communicated with each other about music, they sent us the struct 12inch to check out. while cleaning out the back of the car a few months later, the presumably empty record mailer was about to land in the recycle bin when we fortunately discovered a demo cd of unreleased thrive material inside. we drove around listening to it and week later we agreed to release a 12inch. the music on the nested structure 12inch is dark, foreboding, even outwardly threatening. its hypnotic, textural and rhythmically complex.

the kurl project started in the summer of 2014 where the primary concept was to sonically encompass the various influences of a twenty-year musical journey. the essence of kurls sound is mainly deep dub with hints of house groove that create a very unique sound environment connecting the listener to his lifestyle and movement. at the root of “sacred fire” is a very special love story. kurl started an emotional partnership, a genuine brotherhood with mj white, one of the pioneers of the soulful house music sound of the new york ’90s. marshall james white appeared on many hits in the nyc club scene including scandalous still irresistible just to name one. he tragically passed away in november 2015. mj white gives soul to sacred fire by writing the lyrics and interpreting it with so much passion that kurl was able to transform this track into an eternal love song. for kurl, mj white will remain the angel with a heavenly voice, and above all, a memory that will mark his internal and musical journey for the rest of his days in the words of mj white music has a huge heart that beats inside all of us.
the second release on arcing seas by label heads cassegrain. this new material presents the duos very individual approach to tonality within the techno framework, combined with a subtle tribal influence. maintaining their aim, they keep things exciting for the club as well as sonically. label info: arcing seas is an anagram of cassegrain. it started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple eps on our circula sound. the secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at berghain under this name. a year later, after deciding to start a label, it finally made sense to bring the two together.

komponist roque banos hat schon scores für filme wie “der maschinist- (mit christian bale) und das remake von “evil dead” (regie: fede alvarez) produziert. seine neue arbeit für “don’t breathe” katapultiert ihn in den olymp der suspense- und horror-soundtracks. die vinyl-ausstattung ist - wie bei invada üblich - edel: klappcover, bedruckte inner-sleeves, orangefarbenes vinyl, downloadcode. “don’t breathe” ist nunmehr auch in den deutschen kinos zu bestaunen und in den top 10 der kino-charts. in den usa wurde der film ein so großer erfolg, dass er sogar -suicide squad- vom thron der kino-charts stieß. nicht schlecht für einen horror-film mit kleinem budget. die frankfurter allgemeine zeitung schreibt: “nein, das ist kein schockschrott, das ist eine echte horrorkinoperle: das dunkelkammerspiel “don’t breathe” von fede alvarez zeigt, wozu das genre fähig ist.” ein großer teil der nervenzermürbenden atmosphäre baut auf roque banos akustisches setting - statt klassischer instrumentierung gibt es hier düstere soundscapes.

ukrainian producer rhomb returns to modularz for a long overdue ep. mainly focusing on strong edgy hypnotic techno for this limited and rare release. we really like his sound and feel that this is one of those release that work well no matter where you play it. huge support from some of the busiest djs traveling the world at the moment and encourage you to check this out. its a sure must in every bag. tip
